Noura Hussein did not want to marry. At 16, she was still in high school, aspiring to become a teacher. But her family forced her to a marry a man of their against her will. They made a contract with the groom’s family, but Noura refused, running away to live with a relative for three years.Yet in April of last year, her father   promised that the wedding was off. It was a trap. Her family forced her wed the man and move in with her new husband. When Noura refused to sleep with him, her husband sought the help of his relatives. They held her down as Noura’s new husband raped her.The following day he tried to rape her again, but this time Noura grabbed a knife and stabbed him to death. In Sudan — where it is legal for husbands to rape their wives — Noura was subsequently convicted of murder and sentenced to death.Many international  organization are trying to collect supporters against this crime. As India’s schools begin a two-month break, anti-trafficking campaigners are warning that traffickers are going after impoverished school children, recruiting them to work in factories and on farms over the holiday.The problem is that many of these children never return to school after they start working.

Delaware Governor  Carney signed into law a bill that sets the minimum age for marriage at 18, making Delaware the first state in the US to ban child marriage outright. Previously, a child of any age could have married in Delaware with a judge’s approval.The ban has already taken effect, and Delaware is now unique as the only state where those under 18 cannot marry under any circumstances. All 49 other US states and the District of Columbia allow children to marry under certain conditions, usually through parental consent or approval from a judge

The UK government is being accused of “catastrophic failure” after admitting that a trafficked Vietnamese boy was sexually assaulted while being illegally detained.The boy, known as “H”, is now suing the Home Office.H was only 16-years-old when another inmate at Morton Hall immigration detention center attempted to rape him. Yet the Home Office now admits that H should never have been put in detention as he had already been identified as a potential victim of human trafficking by the government.

Una bella iniziativa dei RC del Distt. 2231. Ogni anno,  tra i monti della Polonia, 26 piccoli traumatizzati dalla violenza della guerra in Ukraina possono tornare ad essere bambini per 20 giorni, in un campeggio organizzato dal Rotary. Il campeggio, ,partito nel 2014, a Zakopane nei grandi paesaggi dei Monti Tatra,  offre una possibilità di guarire dai traumi   psicologici che  hanno spinto i bambini  ad interrompere i contatti emotivi.  I bambini hanno  dai sei ai dodici anni e nelle loro case è arrivata la guerra. Gli psicologi, al campeggio, li guidano in un cammino che mescola evasione e terapia:  si cerca di portare i bambini a parlare delle loro famiglie, distrutte dalla guerra, ma spesso cala il silenzio perchè i ricordi sono troppo dolorosi. Dima non vuole parlare della morte del padre, poi ha spiegato che quando la madre è partita per combattere, il fratello diciottenne si è messo a fumare e bere, cessando di essere per lui, di soli undici anni, l’unico punto di riferimento. Il Progetto è partito grazie al sostegno del Comitato Interpaese Polonia-Ukraina. Dal 2014 ha ospitato un centinaio di bambini, i Rotary Clubs della Polonia che sostengono il Progetto sono ben 83. Se ne consiglia la lettura a tutti i rotariani e non. CNN has uncovered that an increasing number of children are working at cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They labor at the very bottom of the global cobalt supply chain as electric carmakers and big tech companies scramble to get more and more of the precious mineral because cobalt is a key component in lithium-ion batteries.  The DRC produces around 2/3 of the world’s cobalt and is estimated to have half of the world’s reserves. In the last two years, due to rising demand the price of cobalt quadruple, and production at artisanal mines — long-known to have child laborers — shot up by 18%. BMW, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-owner Daimler acknowledged how difficult it is to verify the source. BMW said it makes “every effort to ensure the highest possible standards in the labor practices of our suppliers” but admitted it could do more..
